When you experience low air circulation within a home or an office or having a continuous leakage of water or moisture stains, and then it is very important that you get the samples tested for mold growth. Most of the mold growth is harmless but if the levels increase it could be allergic and could cause respiratory problems. Once when you have decided to test the samples for mold, you could choose between two mold testing approaches.

The first approach to mold testing will be self-inspection and this can be done by inspecting the area that has been affected by molds and take samples of them to a laboratory for mold testing. The location to collect such samples will be places where there are any leaks or where you notice any water stains. You could also collect the samples from places where you feel that you have a bad or unusual odor.

The drawback in making a self-inspection is that you will not be able to identify the correct mold locations and most of times you would overlook hidden mold sources and take the samples from these areas. This will not be complete mold testing process as you shall potentially miss out on certain location and would probably not be the correct method to do mold testing. When you look at the pro and cons of this method, it is less expensive but would be difficult to do it without proper training and could potentially miss out the hidden sources.

The other approach that is available for mold testing is to contact an inspector who is certified in mold testing, and make him collect the samples. They would have the necessary knowledge and skills to inspect and collect the samples. They would gather all the samples beneath the carpet, within the ceiling cavities, and other hidden places. Since the mold growth can be anywhere, only an experienced person will be capable of identifying it within the office or home.

They will also check for the perimeter walls and collect the samples. They will follow the guidelines and will be familiar with the pattern of the growth of mold. So, collecting samples for mold testing using a professional will be ideal as they would be able to identify all the spots and collect the samples, but they would be expensive but it will be worth the price for performing mold testing.
